Comparison
The best sprint video analysis apps in 2026
Updated 2026-10-04
Eight serious tools to analyse a sprint on video. The real difference is not AI, which everyone claims, but what is actually measured: almost all of them read angles in the plane of the image (2D), and TrackGenius is the only one that rebuilds the skeleton in 3D from a single phone video. Want free on a computer? Take Kinovea. Every track and field event? Track & Field AI. Angles you can trust even out of the camera's plane, with nothing to install? TrackGenius.

2D or 3D: the only question that matters
A 2D app reads angles as they appear on the image. As long as the limb moves in a plane parallel to the camera, that is fine. The moment it leaves that plane, which happens on every stride with pelvic rotation, a knee drifting inward or a foot strike that is not perfectly side-on, the measured angle is wrong and nothing tells you so.
TrackGenius rebuilds the skeleton in three dimensions and places it in space using four markers on the track. Hip, knee and shin angles are measured in real space, whatever the limb's orientation relative to the phone.
Which one fits your case
- Free, on a computer, and you are fine measuring by hand: Kinovea.
- You do every event, jumps and throws included: Track & Field AI.
- You want a report card in thirty seconds, a score and an AI assistant, on iPhone: DrivePhase.
- You equip a professional programme and want metrics already validated in 2D: VueMotion.
- You coach and also want jump tests, planning and load monitoring: Astra Athletic.
- You want angles you can trust out of the camera's plane, the stride in 3D from every side, on any phone with nothing to install: TrackGenius.
What TrackGenius does not do yet
A fixed camera is required for now, and an analysis takes a few minutes, not thirty seconds. TrackGenius covers straight-line sprinting only, one athlete per video. The coach plan, to follow several athletes, is on its way.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free sprint analysis app?
Kinovea is free and open source, on a computer, with manual angle measurement. TrackGenius has a seven-day trial, then costs €4.99 a month for fifteen analyses.
Can an app replace a biomechanics lab?
No. A single camera does not replace lab motion capture. It is enough to compare your sessions with each other and see what changes, provided the video is filmed properly.
Are the prices current?
They were read on the app stores and the vendors' sites in September 2026. They change quickly, so check before you subscribe.
